The European Union and Canada have reaffirmed their firm commitment to a comprehensive, just, and durable peace based on a two-state solution in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, under which two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders. In a joint statement issued following the fourth meeting of the Ministerial Joint Committee between Canada and the European Union and distributed by the European Council in Brussels, both sides stressed the importance of de-escalation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and called for an end to settler violence, including against Christian communities, as well as a halt to the expansion of illegal settlements under international law, Israeli military operations, and terrorist attacks against Israel. They welcomed the agreement reached on the first phase of the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza proposed by US President Trump, as well as the outcomes of the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, and urged all parties to fully commit to implementing all stages and refrain from any actions that could undermine the agreement. Both sides emphasized that the agreement to resume humanitarian aid access is of utmost importance and must be fully implemented.
