Buenos Aires, Dec 6 (NA) – The European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union (EU), announced today the imposition of fines totaling 120 million euros (equivalent to about 139.8 million dollars) on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter) for failing to meet its transparency obligations. This decision marks a significant milestone as it is the first ruling for non-compliance issued under the recently implemented Digital Services Act (DSA) of the bloc. The DSA is ambitious legislation designed to regulate online content, guarantee user safety, and require greater transparency from major digital platforms on how they moderate content and combat disinformation. The fine on X is specifically related to the failure to comply with the transparency obligations stipulated in the new regulation.
