In the Baltic Sea, acts of vandalism related to numerous underwater communication and energy cables have continued in recent months. Confirming that the increased NATO presence in the region is aimed at reducing tension due to concerns raised during diverse acts, Commander Eric Nox noted: "Our main goal is to provide for the detection of illegal activities in this area."

Under NATO protection in the Baltic Sea are ships from France and Denmark. A commander from Belgium stated on the submarine that the alliance's mission to protect the sensitive infrastructure of the member states in the waters of the Baltic Sea "Baltic Sentry" "monitors everything that happens there."

"We are working like video cameras monitoring," emphasized Nox.
