Last June, a conflict arose between Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and the national team coach Domenico Tedesco after he was withdrawn from the squad before matches against Austria and Estonia.
Courtois expressed his discontent with this decision, pointing out that at this moment he was the captain of his national team more than a year. Although disputes and discussions occur in the team from time to time, this situation went beyond the bounds of ordinary disagreements.
Coach Tedesco, in turn, explained his decision by saying that he wanted to change the leadership composition of the team before important games. Since then, the relationship between Courtois and Tedesco remains tense, although they are trying to refrain from public conflicts.
"This was a difficult moment for both of us. I, of course, wanted to maintain the captain's link, but I respect the coach's decision," commented Courtois in an interview after the incident.
