European Union Strengthens Fight Against Terrorism

The Council of the European Union in Brussels has adopted a new decision to strengthen the Union's efforts in the fight against terrorism, expanding the restrictive measures related to the European terrorist list. The decision included modifying the listing criteria to include leaders and prominent members of groups and entities on the list who play a key role in planning, executing, facilitating, or preparing terrorist acts, as well as listing individuals, groups, and entities associated with them, whether through participating in the financing of terrorism or contributing to training or recruitment. The Council also decided to impose a travel ban on individuals listed on the list, in addition to freezing their assets and preventing them from being provided with financial or economic resources. It was also announced that the periodic review of the list of individuals, groups, and entities subject to restrictive measures due to their involvement in terrorist acts has been completed, confirming that the list will remain without any modification, ensuring the continuation of the freezing of assets of all listed individuals and preventing them from obtaining any financial resources within the European Union. The Council stressed that terrorism and violent extremism, in all their forms and sources, continue to pose a serious threat to the security of the European Union and its Member States.
